I swore that I’d be better this time,
But I’m more circle than a line.

I think I’ve been finding more harmony it what’s unconventional. I know with music, sometimes I feel like I’ve heard everything I’ll ever like—like there are no new ways to find beauty. But then there are those bands or artists that do the unexpected. They take you on a ride and you think you know where you’re going, but at each turn there’s a twist you weren’t ready for. This is the story of You Blew It!’s newest record Abendrot (which may contain explicit content).
A new band on Triple Crown Records (check out all the bands on this label), You Blew It! is one of those emo-revival bands. Emo-revival is essentially a label smacked on every new emo band that is pretty good and decently creative. But if that label would regain some of its prior holiness, I would still say You Blew It! is among the select few that are truly initiating beautiful, next level material. The record is both jarring, and, like the title Abendrot suggests, beautiful like a sunset or an afterglow.
The record does not always break loose when I expect it to. It builds but then dies down before it explodes. Even the times it does get heavy, the songs are recorded with a composure which I am assuming will hit a little harder live. And even when they shift lanes and avoid what many bands would chase in a manipulative crescendo, Abendrot creates great impact in its subtlety.
